“Vintage looking elements combine to create a distinctly retro-chic vibe.”
In the heart of Ipanema beach, The Fasano is one of the worlds most luxurious, yet understated hotels. Designed entirely by Philippe Stark it draws inspiration from the city’s modernist heritage using natural materials such as yellow onyx, marble and brazilian ironwood. Its furniture is 50s and 60s in style and even the staff uniforms are decidedly vintage looking. All these elements combine to create a distinctly retro-chic vibe.
We suggest that you either visit the spa located on the first floor or head for the 8th floor where the Vichy shower room is located and the views over the beach are amongst the best in the world, the panorama takes in the Two Brothers Mountains, Arpoador and the Corcovado.
Maids Vida Massage (Approx £140)
We chose this signature massage because we wanted to know if it was possible to be any more relaxed than after a day soaking up the sun on Ipanema beach. We opted for the Fasano because sustainability is at the core of its spa philosophy, as a member of the Green Spa Network it only uses organic products and recyclable materials, these even included our therapists’ bamboo fibre uniform!
This full body massage was particularly man friendly and a great introduction to different spa therapies. It combines a reenergising foot bath with a thorough shoulder and neck massage and shiatsu and tui-na pressure plus the benefits of aromatherapy. In case you were wondering, we left feeling completely relaxed and also geared up for the night ahead.
