Steven McRae

‘Being proud about your appearance can help generate confidence’

The son of an Australian drag racer Steven McRae began dancing at the age of 7. A principal at The Royal Ballet since 2009 he thrills audiences in Covent Garden with his soaring and secure technique. Here at The Grooming Guide we know Steven for both his flame coloured hair, and the fact that never looks anything less than immaculate. We are happy he stopped by to share his thoughts on male grooming and reveal why he feels the steps to looking good should be plain and simple.

What does being well groomed means for you?
Taking care of my body as well as wearing the right clothing. I adore Paul Smith’s clothing as it is always cut so perfectly.

Do you think more men are taking an interest in their appearance?
I think society in general is becoming more concerned about their appearance. Men, women, and children seem to be taking a lot of pride in how they look. Being proud about your appearance can help generate confidence.

Does being in the public eye make you feel pressure to look good?
I would take pride in my appearance even if I was not a dancer. Walking around any city across the world, those who make an effort with their appearance always stand out to me, perhaps its the confidence they exude.

What is your favourite fragrance?
I always wear Chanel Allure. I have done for many years now.

Have you ever had a grooming disaster?
A friend once played a prank on me and removed some of my hair from my head. Walking into the hairdressers with a shaved patch in the middle of my head may not have been one of my greatest moments, but it did make them laugh!

Do you ever borrow products from your wife?
No, we don’t share products. However she also wears Chanel Allure, for women of course.

How do you care for your skin every day?
I actually use Boots No.7 for men. Their facewash and moisturiser always do the trick. Very simple.

What is the one product you cant live without?
Chanel Allure Homme.

Lastly who in the public eye do you think gets it right?
Ewan McGregor and Jude law, and as a couple, Brad and Angelina!

Steven McRae will be dancing in Romeo and Juliet which opens at the Royal Opera House on 10 January 2012. For more details visit: www.roh.org.uk
