‘It’s all about the selfie these days!’
Here’s a face most of us will recognise! Jim has been filling our Friday evenings with his entertaining Youtube videos for years now and his following is ever-growing. With nearly two million subscribers to his Youtube channel, the sunny and bubbly twenty-seven year old has found his true calling online. But his rise to fame had darker beginnings, acting as an Edward Cullen lookalike for fiancée Tanya Burr’s make up channel. Seeing how much fun Tanya was having with her beauty videos, Jim decided he wanted in.
Since then, Jim has been signed to Models 1 and also acts as a judge on the new ITV show Viral Tap, judging the weeks events using online clips and providing videos with awards such as the ‘Tell us what you really think of Frozen’ award. But as if being engaged to a beauty goddess doesn’t qualify Jim for grooming advice, his sisters are Nic and Sam from the super successful Norwich-based beauty blog Pixiwoo. Obviously grooming runs in the family and we’re more than happy to take advice from this stylish chap!
What products would you recommend for maintaining a healthy groomed look this summer?
I’ve been using the Kiehl’s Oil Eliminator 24 hour Lotion. The weather has been incredible lately, but as I get hot and bothered, I get greasy. This moisturiser is light enough so that your face doesn’t feel clogged and saturated, but hydrating enough to avoid the tight, dehydrated feeling. It also helps to reduce oil as the day goes on, keeping you looking matte and dry.
What grooming tip boosts confidence?
For me, it’s all about hair: don’t oversaturate your hair with product. Ask your hairdresser what would work best in your barnet and use it sparingly. My favourite is Forming Cream by American Crew. Keep your facial hair trimmed too, once it’s at the length you like, maintain it, and make sure to shave the sparse ones that grow on your neck.
So what are your tips for facial hair grooming?
If you have beard/stubble: Invest in a decent trimmer. It will be your best friend. I use the Remington MB4555 Touch Control Beard and Stubble Trimmer because it charges via USB, meaning I can take it with me when I travel, yet it still gives an even trim throughout.
You’re a great lover of food, so how do you stay so trim?
I’m actually on a real health kick at the moment. I’m working out loads and eating very healthily. If you put rubbish in your body, you will look and feel rubbish. A healthy diet of everything your body needs keeps your skin and hair looking healthy and your body in shape.
What part of your grooming routine do you really enjoy?
I take a very long shower in the morning, for me, it’s my chance to prepare for the day.
What’s your favourite fragrance?
Tom Ford for Men. It makes me feel like James Bond!
You’re an internet pro so if you were going to look for grooming advice online, where would you go?
I would always look for advice from people I can trust and who have experience, whether that be on YouTube, a blog or a site like this (of course, you guys are my favourite).
Do you think social media is affecting guys’ relationships with their appearance? If so, how?
It’s all about the selfie these days. Guys must be on constant standby, with their faces and hair looking immaculate. Otherwise, no one will like it! But also, lots of brands are really good on twitter and the like, and can speak directly to their potential consumers with just a few clicks. Done right, it can be very powerful.
