‘I love a good old fashioned shaving kit…I go for the whole shebang!’
Acoustic singer/songwriter Jack Savoretti has been making records since he was 21. His first solo tour – of Café Nero stores – started early 2008 and this coincided with the re-release of his debut album ‘Between the Minds’. Following a gruelling legal dispute with a former manager Jack was convinced he was done with music for good, due to his second album barely being released.
Ever since then he can’t stop writing songs; the result being his 2012 album ‘Before the Storm’ which was recorded in 4 days and reinvigorating his career. Since the release of his new album ‘Written in Scars’, in February, we couldn’t have been happier to talk to the man himself and learn all his grooming secrets – from his style inspiration, spa trips, signature fragrance and more…
Growing up, what influenced your grooming?
That’s a good question! 1950/60’s Italian style and I grew up looking at pictures of my parents by the sea in Europe; my father in particular was always very sharp and well groomed.
Do you have a daily grooming routine?
Not really! I’m one of those people who have to shower every day, which is rare in my line of business! But other than that I don’t really have a daily routine, I kind of get up, use Clarins skin cream and get going.
Have you ever visited a spa?
Yeah I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but actually while we’re on tour one of the first questions I always ask at every city we get into is ‘is there a good spa?’ *laughs* infact I always like to take the band to a very good spa as facials are fantastic at clearing your pores and helping you feel fresh. My favourite in the UK has to be Babington House.
Do you have a signature fragrance?
I wear Bottega Veneta, it’s a big brand but they make amazing cologne which is quite hard to find. I like to stick with it; I’m very loyal to my Bottega.
Has your style changed since you’ve started to be recognised?
With age I’ve probably changed a bit, so I do look back at my past hairstyles and say, damn what was I thinking! But I think everyone does that! Musically I inhabit a very musky and denim orientated world so if I were to describe my style it would be like a little bit country with a dash of Mediterranean vintage thrown in – does that even make any sense…?!
When it comes to skincare what do you rate?
I’ve taken a liking to Clarins, none of us (the band) have ever really used many grooming products before, but it’s quite funny how addicted we all got to this! We went from zero to hero when it came to skincare; you realise ‘oh man that cream was actually nice, I love the way that smells!’
Have you ever had any grooming disasters?
Every time I cut my hair I think it’s a grooming disaster so I rarely used to get my haircut. However recently I found an amazing place in London called 10500 on Portobello Road and now I actually love going to get my hair cut.
Do you have any secrets on how to handle longer hair?
Yeah! There’s actually a great product called John Masters, which I discovered thanks to a stylist at 10500. It smells great, I mean you could eat the stuff; I’ve got one in front of me and it’s actually made from Bourbon, Vanilla and Tangerine.
So whats in your wash bag?
I have Old Spice deodorant, John Master Organic hair product, Bottega Veneta Cologne, a toothbrush and mouthwash. Clearly I like to keep it simple! Oh and a razor, I love a good old fashioned shaving kit, I just love mine, I go for the whole shebang!
When are you at your happiest?
In general? Well I just had a little boy so I’m pretty up there! Actually it’s a whole new experience when it comes to grooming and being a father, it’s less about looking good while I’m changing a nappy because my true happiness is just being in the same room as him.
