‘I look particularly terrible clean shaven..it just doesn’t work for me!’
You will no doubt recognise Charlie King for his stint on The Only Way Is Essex and his recent appearance on ITVBe dinner dates, but here at grooming towers we’ve long been fond of Charlie! Above all We appreciate his no- nonsense approach to grooming and the fact that he focusses on feeling great as well as looking good!
Now with an Attitude magazine cover shoot and two television documentaries in the pipeline we’re bound to be seeing far more of Mr King, so we’re glad he spared the time to drop by and chat day spas, man tans and so much more….
Is there still an ‘Essex look’ when it comes to grooming?
There sure is, whether it’s slicked back hair or the Brentwood sweep it’s always about looking sharp and being bang on trend.
How fond are you of a trip to the spa?
Well, I’ve visited a spa day before and found that a facial is great for cleaning out the pores, to be honest I also like the odd manicure and pedicure, they’re great if you want to make a good impression. I also tend to exercise a lot so the occasional full body massage will help my muscles to recover and loosen up.
Which other guys inspire you in terms of their grooming?
Beckham gets it right most of the time and he’s clever enough to use his facial hair to help create the look he’s pushing. In terms of icons, Elvis Presley was a beautiful man, we should continue to celebrate his looks, style and talent.
How would you describe your style?
Believe it or not I’d say my look is rather natural. I’m big on maintenance so although I leave my eyebrows alone, I’ll get my hair cut once a week and trim my beard with clippers and to look fresh and healthy I reach for the St. Tropez Fake Tan.
Which other products do you use on your face?
The Nip and Man range is awesome and I use their Facial Scrub and also their Eye Cream.
Are there any other products that you rate?
I’m very loyal to LS&B hair range, their Ruck Matte Putty works a treat for me, I also use their Argan Blend Shave Oil which keeps my beard and neck area looking nourished and shiny. I use LS&B Protein Shampoo and Head and Shoulders if I get a flaky scalp.
So has Charlie ever had any grooming disasters?
Who hasn’t. I look particularly terrible clean shaven, it just doesn’t work for me. I’ve also cut my sideburns far too high and some of my hairstyles have been major fails, such as the time when I thought I was a surfer dude with peroxide locks!
Do you have a favorite fragrance?
I never leave the house without aftershave on and I love all Bvglari scents. Also Tom Ford Oud Wood is great for evening.
What’s in your wash bag?
Dental floss, toothpaste, mouthwash and travel deodorant and some hair product.
Like to share any grooming secrets?
There’s no point looking good without feeling great so I use Protein World Whey Protein concentrate as my protein supplement, I also use protein world Amino Acids, Mixed Vitamins and Cod Liver oil. Drinking lots of water daily is key to good skin care. I also try to sleep 8 hours a night, exercise four to six times a week, mixing cardio with core and weights. I also eat a diet that’s low in carbs and high protein with lots of fruit and veg.
Where are you at your happiest?
On a beautiful beach in the sun, with fresh air and the sound of the water. It’s a luxury to have time to reflect, compose and be grateful for the positive things in life.
