Ashley Walters

‘My girlfriend has changed a lot of my grooming habits!’

Best known for being one of the many members of So Solid Crew under the pseudonym ‘Asher D’, Ashley Walters is all grown-up now and, in the process, has carved himself an impressive acting career. With new single ‘Your Love’ out in late October and an album to closely follow, Ashley clearly knows the meaning of the word ‘versatile’.

With experience in Hollywood starring alongside 50 Cent in ‘Get Rich Or Die Trying’, there is not much he can’t do! We caught up with Ashley ahead of his return to Top Boy on Channel Four to talk looking good and feeling great!

How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
Not long at all. I would say 15 minutes at the most.

Do you think the way you take care of yourself has changed since you have become an actor?
Not necessarily because I’m an actor but I am getting older, of course, and that asks for more care to be taken. My girlfriend has definitely changed a lot of my grooming habits.

Who do you think looks good at the moment?
The people that I think are looking good aren’t celebrities. I look to my mum, my aunt and my girlfriend in regards to who I think looks good.

Where, and how often, do you get your haircut?
I get my hair done once a week but obviously, when I am filming, that changes to keep in line with continuity. I’ve been going to a hairdresser called Plush in Surrey Quays for the last 13 years, getting my haircut done by Michael. It is quite far from where I live but for me it’s important to keep that loyalty.

What does the future hold in terms of your music career?
I have a single out at the end of next month (28th October) called ‘Your Love’ featuring Alisha Dixon ready for a new album out early next year. During the next couple of months I am going to take a backseat with the acting while I concentrate more on my music.

Name your three favourite grooming products
It would have to be my face wash from Neutrogena, The Phillips Senso-Touch 3D shaver and Palmer’s Coca Butter.

Any grooming tips you have that you wish to share?
Well, I have to admit that the women in my life are the ones that give me most of my grooming advice.

What products do you use to keep your skin hydrated?
I have very sensitive skin due to my eczema so I use Dove body wash in the shower and Neutrogena scrub for my face. Hydrocortisone cream is also a must.

Do you have a signature aftershave and if so, what is it?
At the moment I use two aftershaves. Mont Blanc aftershave is a favourite of mine and also Issey Miyake’s L’eau d’Issey Pour Homme.

How important is it to you to look good and why?
It is important to me because I want to look as close to my pictures as I can. Also being in the media spotlight and attending events and premieres obviously forces me to try and look my best.
