The Pixiwoos

‘I like guys to look groomed but rough around the edges!’

Pixiwooʼ is the name of Makeup artist sistersʼ Samantha and Nicola Chapmanʼs You Tube Channel. Their beauty channel has gained massive popularity, what’s more their audience now happily migrates between their Blog, Twitter feed and Facebook page. Their You Tube channel serves up an astonishing 5m views a month! With a larger following on You Tube than The BBC, Beyonce or Simon Cowell who better to debunk a few myths about male grooming! Thanks Samantha!

You are a YouTube sensation! So what’s is your most frequently asked question?
We get a lot of questions about which eyeshadow colours complement specific eye colours. I created this quick guide to help http://youtu.be/SSs4blhYGe8

Did you plan a career in blogging?
No! We fell into it accidentally. It started with a smokey eye video I posted on YouTube for a friend who needed advice then I received requests for others and Nicola became involved to keep up with demand. That was in October 2008 and we now have nearly 500 tutorials online and over 100,000,000 video views on YouTube.

So, you love make-up?
I always have, my aunt is a make-up artist www.maggiehunt.com and from a young age we followed her career and decided that was what we wanted too. When we were growing up she frequently worked with some of the world most glamorous men and women and it looked incredibly exciting to us.

Which girls in the public eye get it right?
I think Jennifer Aniston always looks elegant and understated but Helen Mirren is my favourite. She always looked stylish and polished and beautifully made up.

What is your favourite look on a man?
Groomed but rough around the edges, Think Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom

Do you think that male grooming is a recent trend?
As make-up artists a huge amount of our work has always been male grooming but we are definitely seeing this infiltrating the high street now too. Wonderfully groomed celebs like David Beckham, Peter Andre and Zac Efron have made a huge difference, also in the UK many young men are influenced by footballers and generally they tend to be quite well groomed (off the pitch).

Which guys get it right?
David Beckham, Peter Andre, Zac Efron, David Gandy, Jude Law, Ryan Reynolds, Sean Combs a.k.a P Diddy, Michael Owen, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp

What are the most common grooming mistakes made by men?
Patchy and badly groomed beards. Beards are very popular at the moment but they need maintaining. Firstly, run clippers over it to remove any whisps, then fill in any sparse patches with a stippling brush and an eyeshadow

What products should guys be using regularly?
You can see our advice here:  http://youtu.be/U7TOUg9udfc Obviously use as many or as few of these tips that are useful to yourself.

Are you happy to lend your products to the guy in your life? -If so what are they?
Yes and I frequently do. Danny likes a little concealer under his eyes and some matte bronzer, As he has a lovely olive skin tone which can look sallow in the winter months

Which 3 products could you personally not live without?
I could not be without Mascara, Concealer and lip balm.

What is the earliest smell you remember?
Probably Guerlain Purure as my mum used to wear that fragrance

What is your favourite fragrance on a guy and which scent do you wear?
I have a few. I love Chanel Egoiste Platinum and Chanel Allure Homme Sport on men. I wear Chanel Coco Mademoiselle or Stella by Stella McCartney

How long does it take you to get ready for an event/ also your
partner?

I plan everything out beforehand so it takes me 1 hour maximum. Danny probably takes the same amount of time because he is a faffer.

What is your key tip for looking good and feeling great?
