‘Be confident, a guy that’s comfortable in his own skin is truly attractive’
Television presenter Pollyanna Woodward is vivacious and driven in equal parts. You will know her as the star of the hugely successful Gadget Show on Channel 5 which has seen her take part in all sorts of tech challenges. Who else could you imagine bungee jumping in South Africa or competing in a power tool drag race, in a custom made drag car powered by 4 petrol chainsaw motors?
Perhaps it would surprise you to know that Pollyanna got down to the last 13 on ‘Popstars The Rivals’, slimly missing out on being in Girls Aloud, or that she loves buying glamorous dresses for her red carpet appearances to contrast the ‘tomboy’ image she has on The Gadget Show? Here at The Grooming Guide, we can’t think of anyone better to shed a practical AND glamorous light on the world of male grooming. Thanks Pollyanna!
How important do you think it is for a man to be well groomed?
Although it’s important for a man to look after himself, it can also be worrying if your boyfriend/partner takes more time getting ready than you do!
Where do you think guys most commonly get grooming wrong?
Guys that follow trends too closely can be a turn off. So never choose a hairstyle or facial hair just because it’s trendy, it may not suit you……
What are the best grooming/beauty gadgets currently on the market?
La Tweez Pro-illuminating Tweezers, Cool-It Caddy-Refrigerated Make Up Bag, Cupron Copper Pillowcases and Razorcare System.
If you had to invent your own grooming gadget what would it be?
A hairstyling device that does my hair as well as a hairdresser…..the ‘ just stepped out of a salon’ look is never easy to replicate at home.
What is your favourite fragrance for yourself and on a man?
My signature scent is Bvlgari’s Jasmin Noir, I LOVE IT , however I’m not too sure on a guys scent as my boyfriend doesn’t wear one….obviously I don’t make a habit of smelling other men 😉
What guys in the public eye always look great?
Ryan Gosling…he’s a natural! Sometimes he’s dressed up and groomed, other times he’s in jeans and a t-shirt with bed hair, but he always looks great because of his air of confidence. Mark Wahlberg has the same vibe…guys confidence in your appearance can be highly attractive!
How do you keep your skin looking great?
Actually it’s really tough and I probably don’t keep on top of it as well as I’d like, flying can be so harsh on my skin. I feel it dry out immediately as we take off and it takes a good few days to recover, so I make sure to compensate by using a little emollient under my foundation.
Which products could you not live without?
Priori Gentle Skin Cleanser, Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, Clinique Deep Comfort Moisturiser, MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation, L’Oreal Touche Magique and MeMeMe Fat Cat Mascara
Can you recommend a product that a guy could borrow from you and benefit from?
Priori Gentle Skin Cleanser…it’s a great light daily exfoliator and Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, it’s brilliantly hydrating
We’ve heard you are a passionate skier, how do you protect your skin from the mountain climate?
I always get a Ski Moisturiser they are normally 50+ factor and a very thick cream but it gives a great protective layer, I also use a snood or scarf to cover as much of my face as possible.
Quick shower or long soak and with what?
I love baths but they are rare so I normally shower… my wash bag contains Foamburst shower gel, Charles Worthington Front Row shampoo and conditioner, Johnson’s baby oil and talc and Batiste Dry Shampoo.
If you had to give guys one tip on grooming, what would it be?
Be yourself, you know what feels good and what’s really you…so go with it and be confident, that’s truly attractive, a guy comfortable in his own skin.
