‘A little bit scruffy is great…just not smelly!’

Dublin born Laura Whitmore studied journalism for four years at Dublin City University before embarking on her career as a television presenter. She left Ireland in 2008 and has been presenting MTV News ever since, as well as hosting MTV special shows from The Brits, Ibiza Rocks, MTV VMA’s and MTV Movie Awards.

Here at The Grooming Guide we appreciate that Laura is no stranger to a good cause and in 2011 she became an Ambassador of ISPCC to help front a national anti-bullying campaign www.ispcc.ie
Here she shares her thoughts on guys and grooming…thanks Laura!

What does well groomed mean to you?
Presenting yourself in the best possible way and feeling good about yourself. It’s not about spending ages on your appearance but doing little things that give you some oomph!

What guys in the public eye do you think look well groomed?
I don’t like guys that are over groomed. It’s important to be a little scruffy but not smelly. The guys who groom in the right way for me are Alexander Skarsgard, Jim Sturgess, Caleb Followell and Dave Grohl.

In what way could guys improve the way they look?
Wear a great aftershave and exfoliate in the shower so your skin is nice and soft

What products do men use before appearing on live television?
Moisturiser so their skin doesn’t dry out under the lights…Clinique do a great range for men! Also powder to stop shine, it can get very sweaty….Rimmel and Illamasqua do a lovely and light pressed powder!

Presenters always appear so well groomed! Have you or one of your co-hosts ever had a grooming disaster?
I’ve had loads, especially when filming in a field at a festival. I do my own make up on MTV it’s often so crazy backstage I don’t realise that I have mud on my face or crazy hair.

What products do you use when you bath/shower?
Ren Shower Wash and exfoliation salt.

Name one product you use that a guy could benefit from?
Moisturiser – preferably one with an SPF to protect the skin like Roc Hydra or Ponds

What is your favourite fragrance for yourself and on the man in your life?
Ralph Lauren Black Polo and Clinique Happy

Does the guy in your life borrow any products from you?
Yes, but I won’t tell you what products!

Who always looked really great and should continue to inspire guys today?
Tinie Tempah always scrubs up well
