‘Nothing’s worse than an orange beard’
Having won the title of Miss England in 2007, Georgia Horsley is no stranger to knowing all the tips about looking great. It could have been a very different story as Georgia, who hails from Malton in North Yorkshire, has brains as well as beauty. With a diploma in anatomy and physiology she had intended to become a media make-up artist before winning her title.
Luckily for her fans at The Grooming Guide she very kindly agreed to let us (and you!) in on the secrets of her regime, as well as what it takes for guys to impress her. Here she shares advice on looking good and feeling even better, thanks Georgia!
What are your top tips for guys who need to get their grooming act together?
Less is definitely more when it comes to male grooming, a dash of aftershave, minimal product on the hair, as little make-up as possible and 100% no fake tan in the stubble! Nothing’s worse than an orange beard!!
How do you like your men to smell?
First of all clean!! I’m not a fan of the just got out of bed and not had a shower smell! As for fragrance my favourite smell is Christian Dior Homme Intense, it’s Danny’s smell ( her partner Danny Jones from McFly)
Does Danny ever use any of your products?
Danny uses all my products. I have to hide all my expensive face creams, hair products etc because he steals them! He is very much a metrosexual man.
Why do you think models have such great skin? Are they blessed with great skin or do you have a vigorous skincare routine?
Water, water and more water! It makes such a difference to the condition of your skin. I make sure I remove any make-up before I go to bed and always moisturise, then apply a good eye cream. Not all models are blessed with good skin.
What is your secret to looking good under the HD cameras?
Applying a great primer and powder to prevent shine. HD cameras show up everything so a good photographer and lighting is essential, plus having blemish free skin helps!
Which male celebrities have grooming down to a tee?
David Beckham has his grooming spot on. He never fails to look well groomed and clean cut.
Being a model your hair must go through a lot of styling, how do you keep it looking great?
My hair has been through its fair share of trauma, over styling has left it very frazzled. I swear by three products: Aussie Miracle Shampoo, L’Oreal Professional Hair Expertise EverPure Intense Mask and Moroccan Oil. A good cut and colour is also vital, I travel to the North to get my hair cut at my hairdressers called Bang. They know my hair so well which is so important.
Why do you think guys are making more effort with their appearance?
I think it’s definitely becoming much more acceptable for a man to take pride in their appearance, especially since The Only Way is Essex hit our screens. Men are so much more open to trying things like fake tan and so they should. It certainly doesn’t make you any less of a man!
What are the top male turn offs in the grooming stakes?
There are a few but I think the worst thing for me is when I see a man with long nails. If they are long AND dirty then that’s even worse, keep it short guys and leave the nails to us ladies!
Do you think there’s a difference between how men and women take care of themselves in the north and south?
When I first moved to London I noticed a dramatic difference in the condition of my skin and hair. I really had to look after myself more.
How does your beauty ritual vary when you are getting ready for a shoot/show?
I make sure I have an evening to myself to get my body and face shoot ready. Danny knows not to disturb me! Lots of moisturising, hair conditioning and body scrubbing/tanning goes on. On non-shoot days getting ready is a much quicker process.
Which beauty products could you not live without?
If I’m being strict then I’d have to say Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Body Lotion, No7 Protect and Perfect Beauty Serum, Moroccan Oil, Seche Vite Top coat nail polish, St Moriz self tanning mist and dermaquest c-lipoic-eye-therapy.
If you had to recommend one male grooming product what would it be and why?
Bare Minerals powder foundation is an amazing cover up for men without looking to heavy or obvious that they are wearing make-up. Danny swears by it (as do I!)
