‘I once had a spray tan and looked like a walking baked bean’
So you think you know Caggie Dunlop of E4’s ‘Made in Chelsea’? Yes it’s true that as part of the Made in Chelsea cast alongside, Mark Francis, Millie Mackintosh and Hugo Taylor, she’s often seen on nights out at London establishments the Bluebird, Thai Garden and Grill and the Electric Cinema. But were you aware that Miss Dunlop is an aspiring singer who writes her own songs in addition to performing cover versions of classics by U2 and the Goo Goo Dolls?
Before becoming entangled within the Chelsea set, Caggie also studied at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Film and Theatre Institute in New York. A firm favourite with all here at The Grooming Guide, we know and love Caggie for her lustruous locks and wicked sense of humour. Here she shares her grooming do’s and don’t and spills ‘the beans’ on her disastrous encounter with fake tanning….
How important do you think it is for men to look well groomed?
If you’re not graced with cutting cheek bones and wash board abs then keeping yourself in check is important. It’s not attractive when a guy is more vain than you. A secret mani pedi is a good idea though, stubs for nails aren’t good.
Do any of the Made in Chelsea boys ever borrow any of your grooming products?
Not really, my Eight Hour Cream perhaps? That said they really do tend to be more high maintenance than than us girls!
Since being on the show are you more aware of your appearance, has your grooming routine changed at all?
I guess a little, I have more pressure to look a certain way all the time, but I still love lounging round in sweat pants. Day to day I don’t wear make up. And I try and work out more, there’s this place near me called the Lomax Fitness Centre and it’s amazing for helping me stay in shape!
If you had to recommend one piece of grooming advice for guys what would it be?
Look after your skin and hair and don’t be afraid to moisturise!
What are your must have products?
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, Moroccan Oil, Dead Sea Moisturiser, Origins On The Spot, A lift facial by Nouveau Beauty Group.
What products do you have in your wash bag?
Mememe’s Flawless Foundation, Origins Face Mask, Creme De La Mer, Eight Hour Cream, Frederic Fekkai Hair Glossing Cream, and perfume from Coco de Mer.
What is the worst grooming disaster you have seen on a guy?
Let’s just say a bad fake tan is never a good look!
Your hair always has that just blow dried bounce! How do you achieve this?
I use LA Science Shampoo which acts as a conditioner as well, it increases hair growth too. And Moroccan Oil Cream, for texture and to keep it soft. I try to make sure I don’t straighten it or use too much heat on it, as that’s what splits your hair. So getting treatments every so often is key. I go to Daniel Galvin Jr and since then my hair’s condition has improved a lot.
Do you prefer relaxing baths or refreshing showers?
Baths all the way. I love baths!
Which fragrance do you use and what is your favourite scent on a man?
When I am about 35 I will start wearing Chanel no.5, that’s what all women should wear when they feel like they really are women!
What is your favourite grooming indulgence?
A lift facials. And a blow dry at Daniel Galvin Jr!
You always look so fresh faced, even after a night out on the tiles! How do you manage to keep your skin looking so flawless?
I try not to wear too much make up so I don’t clog up my skin. And change up my cleaning routine and regularly use masks. After a big night out, oxygen facial mask from bliss is a life saver. But the main secret to a good complexion is good diet and keeping hydrated.
Have you ever committed a beauty faux pass?
I once had a spray tan and I looked like a walking baked bean. And I’ve dyed my hair all sorts of colours by accident.
Have you ever had a grooming disaster?
Trying to wax myself at home. Never again.
Lastly which celebrities do you think have male grooming down to a tee?
Chris Hemsworth. Saw him last night at a premiere and the man is a god. Zac Efron also does it for me!
